SALIENT FEATURES OF PHASE-II

  • Gauge – Standard gauge (1435 mm )
  • Rails – 60 Kg/m Head Hardened Rails – continuously welded
  • Tracks – Ballastless Track for elevated Viaduct and Ballasted Track in At Grade Portion.
  • Designed Speed – 90 Kph
  • Traction – 25 KV overhead Traction
  • Signal - Communication Based Train Control (CBTC)..
  • Telecom – Terrestrial Trunked Radio(TETRA), Integrated PAS/PIDS with ATS, Surveillance & access control system, IPPBX system for communication.
  • AFC – Automatic fare collection with Passenger Operated Machine (POM), Smart Card and other digital technologies
  • Train - 3 car Train(DMC + TC + DMC) each of 21.94 m length & 2.9 m wide. Capacity – 970 ( seating 136 and standing 834).

Nagpur Metro Phase-II consists of following 4 extensions of 2 corridors of Phase I, totaling 43.8 km -

i. Khapri – MIDC ESR - 18.5 Km
ii. Automotive Square – Kanhan River - 13 km
iii. Prajapati Nagar – Transport Nagar - 5.6 km
iv. Lokmanya Nagar – Hingna - 6.7 km

Phase-II will connect the satellite cities of Nagpur and highly benefit a population of over 10 lakh residing in these areas. The Kanhan route passes through Kamptee, which is a big town and thousands of residents commute to Nagpur for work and education. They will be able to reach all corners of Nagpur fast using the Metro. Several coal mines of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) are located near Kanhan. Butibori is the biggest industrial estates in Nagpur district and thousands of Nagpurians work in the estate. There are about 750 units in Butibori, which employ around 50,000 people. The Metro will provide a fast mode of commuting to their factories. Hingna is a fast-developing town adjoining Nagpur. Kapsi has an industrial estate and is a transport hub. Project Cost & Funding

Total project cost is Rs 6,708 Cr, which will be shared 50:50 by GoI & GoM and debt will be secured from international funding agencies.

Cost per Km: ₹ 160 Cr.

Cost Sharing:

Equity (Central & State) : ₹ 3123 Cr.
EIB : ₹ 1527 Cr.
ADB : ₹ 2058 Cr.
TOTAL : ₹ 6708 Cr.

LAND ACQUISITION STATUS FOR PHASE - II

  • The total areas required for Phase – II project is 90435 sq.m. (9.043 Hectare).
  • Out of the above :
  • - State Government Land : 24580 sq.m.
    - Central Government Land : 12046 sq.m.
    - Private Land : 53809 sq.m.
    - Total : 90435 sq.m.
  • Land acquisition for more than 50% land has been processed.
  • No major constraint is expected due to land issues in execution of the project.
  • Consent for execution of work at site has been obtained in 80% of the cases including Defence Land.

MULTIMODAL INTEGRATION (MMI)

For attracting maximum footfalls for metro services, following measures will be examined and adopted:

a) Feeder Bus services in consultation with NMC from nearby Colonies/Villages.
b) Coordination with urban road transport services such as intercity & intra city bus services.
c) Adequate space for disembarking passengers from local mode of transport such Autorickshaw.
d) At each station, ease of approach for pedestrians shall be ensured.

STATUS OF PRELIMINARY WORKS OF PHASE-II

  • Alignment Finalised.
  • Station Locations Finalised.
  • For Utility shifting (Electrical, Water Pipe line etc.) requirements have been identified, agencies have been finalised and necessary shifting works are progressing.
  • Agencies for Social Impact Assessment, Environmental Impact Assessment, Topography Mapping, Geotechnical Investigations, Initial Pile Load Tests, etc. have also been finalised.
  • Detailed Design Consultants for design of stations comprising of Architectural, Structural & MEP designs, and for OHE Arrangements have been fixed, and they have already commenced the design works. Design of other works (Viaduct Structures and Systems etc.) are to be done by the Design Consultants to be deployed by the respective construction contractors.

TIMELINES OF PROJECT COMPLETION IN STAGES

  • Overall completion Target : Nov-2027.
  • Proposed to be commissioned in 6 stages as indicated below:-
  1. Stage 1: Reach 1A At- Grade Section of 1.7 Km & 2 At Grade stations by June 2025.
  2. Stage-2 : Reach 2A - 6.92 Km of viaduct & 6 elevated stations by Dec-2025.
  3. Stage-3 : Reach 4A - 5.6 Km of viaduct & 3 elevated stations by Dec-2026.
  4. Stage 4 : Reach 3A – 6.70 km of viaduct & 7 elevated stations by Mar- 2027.
  5. Stage 5: Reach 2B – 6.23 km of viaduct & 6 elevated stations by Jun-2027.
  6. Stage 6 : Reach 1B – 17.6 Km of viaduct & 8 elevated Stations by Nov- 2027.
